: Actually the stripes were painted because the orriginal spar varnish used was
: very amber in color and after painting over the caulk the stripes looked
: yellow, so were painted white on top of the varnish for appearance.
: Real fun job, after you stain and apply up to 20 coats of varnish you get to

Just thinking about this, been a number of years since I had that shop. One of the last boats I did was a mahogany plywood Correct Craft and had to install a new foredeck. The grooves for that boat were all cut thru the top couple of plys so there were strips every 3". Fun taking a piece of mahogany plywood and cutting paralel cuts all the way down the deck, did it all with a circular saw. I can tell you if I could have gotten away with just painting the strips I most certainly would have
