Yep, I just tapered them by eye, I started with a plane, however...
I use the "Scary Sharp, (TM)" sharpening & it didn't take long to
realise that the small size of the parts that I would be missing
skin & fingernail pieces in no time, so I started using sand paper.
The bevel is so small that it did fine, and most of them didn't need
to be tapered at all.
I also realised that if I matched up the outside as best as I could
that the inside would be eazy to sand. ( as the outside was a... pain.)
However it looks good & I never had much luck bending thin strips
around the top of the riser.
