I had a customer who built a boat in my shop and applied a copper strip down the hull of his kayak. He used the tape that is used in stain glassing seams. We did not apply it under the glass since we were concerned about the tape's adhesion to bare wood. He applied the glass and then in subsequent coats applied the tape to a smooth hull and added a few layers of epoxy over that. Worked well. Only trick was getting the tape to lie flat without creasing over a slight curve.
