The folks who make WEST system have a boat building backround. Check out their web site.
In the late 80"s I helped a friend build a Tom Wylie 30 foot sailboat that was a wonderful looking and sailing boat. It was built in a very similar fashion to our strip building, just on a larger scale. The hull forms were set up upside down. A row of 1" by 1" ash was run fore and aft. Then 2 layers of 1/4" by 6" mahogany were run diagonally to each other and the first layer. A final layer of mahogany was run fore and aft. The hull was covered by a layer of fibreglas cloth. I don't remember the weight. After all the fill coats were complete, 2 coats of clear Imron were sprayed on. West System epoxy was used for all glue and fastening applications.
