Old saying about Yacht vs. Boat, if you pay someone to dump the waste tanks, it's a yacht.

30 footer is a boat. And...do yourself a huge favor, if you want one, buy a used one, it's a heck of alot less money, factor of 10.

That said, strip planking was around on full sized boats a long time before anyone ever gave a thought to using it on a kayak. Lots of books, hundreds, on the subject.
