Brazil is an incredible place to paddle. I can't beleive there is only on outfitter/guide/rental place in the entire country. He has a well qualified staff, all ACA certified. His kayaks and PFDS's are made in Brazil (it is outrageously expensive to import in Brazil), the designs reflect a significant influence of some of the better brands that we use in North America. I paddled in Ubatuba and then we went north of Rio to Cabo Frio and Cabo Buzios. Ubatuba was scenic with plenty of marine life. Flying fish were all over along with sea turtles about every 100 yards, rays, dolphins ( I don't know what kind they were), and plenty of birds. Cabo Frio had some great sea caves and a very nice beach. I think both Cago Frio and Buzios are prone to high winds although we did not experience any. Cabo Buzios had some pretty serious chop in locations and plenty of beaches where you could relax on the beach drink a coconut or get a meal. All beaches in Brazil have public access but it is illegal to camp on them so you just put up your hammocks after dark. Coastal waters tend to be very shallow 15-30 feet deep from what I experienced. There are islands all over the place. We experienced a good mix of calm and challenging waters. I will get some more pictures and a story out later, but this link has a handful of pictures. We pulled the turtle in the picture out of the fish net in the background.
