I seriously doubt that you will need to add additional reinforcement to the hull. We routinely portage our boats fully loaded and we've never had an issue. This year we did a couple of portages this year with a weeks worth of gear in each boat that included hauling them into the back of a pickup, kind of similar to the way you describe only without the wheels. No problemo.

The hulls of these boats are much stronger than people realize.
