What kind of wood? I did the same thing using oak and probably thinner than an eighth. I just put a layer of 9 oz glass tape inside and out and once the lip is on, it's very strong. I was able to make total bends with no problem and did an overlap scarf joint on the back of the cockpit opening.

Because the coaming wants to spring outward, mine stayed in position fine and just used a few bowed pieces of strip to hold it in a few places using regular thickened epoxy.
