Keep in mind that many of the rivers and streams in the Sao Paulo area have raw sewage dumped into them from the many shanty ghettos along them. And, there are parasites there that will make you wish you were dead (I even brushed my teeth with Sprite once when I was out of bottled water). So be very careful about not ingesting any water (NOT a good place to bang out rolls!), and clean yourself up before you eat or drink anything. Oh, and if there are no locals in a body of water, there is probably a really good (crocodiles) reason.
