I think what you're looking at in that picture is the carbon cloth with a layer of clear glass over it, not the gasket. You can just see the weatherstrip channel around the inside of the line of magnets. I just use 1/4" weatherstripping on my magnetic hatches. As long as I keep the magnets within about 4" of each other it compresses the stripping just fine.
