I've built two sof's and had mixed results on color. The first was an F1 and i went blood red, two years later the red I was told would fade is still red. It spent some time stored outside and still a crimson tide ride.
The next project I went gun metal blue and it was gorgeous when initially dyed. With a little time stored outside, less than a month, it started turning green followed by yellow...lesson learn and not a future option.
Next project I am going more natural but not wanting a white kayak to turn reddish below the waterline in NC clay fed lakes, still I don't want tan or brown, for sure not brown. The direction I want to go is like the color of a deer in the spring, a buckskin look and irregular in depth. So not wanting a solid color I want what i thought i wanted to avoid.
My thoughts are using three varied batches of dye and perhaps some sponging. Anyone gone there? Sure you have?
