Done it, with no issues (so far). Need to be fastened securely, and it's nice to have them not pushing against the skin. You'll still get plenty of water in the boat - do see how much, in controlled conditions, before taking off across the bay or lake.
Dollar store swim noodles are lots cheaper - seasonal items, though.
