I like this one more than my first... got the shoulders down better, along with getting a good shape to the blades (airfoil/waterfoil?). I rather like the rounded tips, too, even though there's a few divits in the end grain where the wood chose to gouge instead of cut. I figure they'll fill in when I coat the tips with epoxy.. if they don't, I'll mix up a batch of epoxy & microballoons to deal with it.

I did screw up the grain when I selected the wood... apparently a vertical grain is best, for a variety of reasons. I selected a 2x4 with few knots, but the grain sits at about 45 degrees. Sure didn't make carving it very easy in a few spots, since the cut wanted to follow the grain and lift the wood. I'll pay more attention to the grain direction next time.

I managed to find my old wood burning kit, too... traced some "remembrances" on the paddle, along with a few emblems. Gives it a bit of personality, and the wife got a big kick out of it.

Can't wait to get my SoF built...
