Never ever trust only the roof rack. Kayaks are long they can wiggle with enough leverage to jerk any roof rack off any car.
(with a truck rack or straps running through your car windows you're a lot safer.)

I find I sometimes forget to attach my stern strap if I'm really tired after a hard paddle. Things like this, I find the only effective method to develop
an obsessive compulsive disorder, check, then check then check again.

I won't soon forget the bicycle store owner. We owe it to him to be safe not just with our 'yaks but who they could land on.
