Agree Alex
Later TV news followup showed the Wellington Rowing Club and suggesting it was a rowing skiff.
Whatever your comment about tying down the forward end is correst.
Incidently the driver is still critical in intensive care (if you can belive it!)

: I heard a day later(?) that TV3 news changed that to
: "kayak" which is what I presumed it was to start with.

: It does emphasis the need to ALWAYS tie the bow down.

: News items only indicate something might have happened, somewhere,
: some time, maybe. One can get very cynical about news reporting.

: Our 7.1 earthquake, the same size as Haiti's -

: Incidentally wild stories about looting after our recent earthquake
: - usual opportunist (1 or was it 2) passing by but nothing more.
: Also the epicentre was reported at one place but was a long way
: from there and a lot of the rest were underneath my kayak
: workshop .... The datum used was a small village where as our
: town is 3 times the size. Other datums for after shocks, a small
: village (so small no gas station) where as the shock was on the
: edge of a 1/2 million population city.... and so on...
