Problems to be overcome
: would be adding drainage to any recesses in the deck, like the

Regarding cockpit drainage; if you add a hump in the middle to isolate the seat area from the footwell a'la ocean racer, you probably won't have much of an issue with water in the seat itself. In the footwell you would need to reduce the volume as much as possible and add scuppers or a bailer. the EpicV12 uses an Anderson bailer which can be closed off for slow paddling and sitting idle. I personally find Red7 bullet Scuppers to be excellent. http://www.surfskidev.info/content/view/633/156/
The leg hump in the middle would also be required for structural reasons i.e to reduce chance of oil canning.
