Artists use 3M's Artist's Spray Mount Adhesive. It's repositionable. It will firmly affix stencils, then come up. If you want to make your own stencils go to an art supply store and buy acetate. They have it for this purpose, but be aware that it only flexes in one plane, so complex curves are not good. Mylar isn't heavy enough.
