Yes, hull and deck were skinned separately, with the rubrail covering the seam. I like doing that sooo much better than sewing a long center seam!
Hull and deck can be skinned from one 16' length of 76" wide fabric - as long as you cut a slit down the center of the cockpit while you are doing the deck.

The slots in the coaming are for roof rack tie-down straps, so they don't press on the coaming itself.
