S&G: Table to build Pinguino

Hi,
As a rookie at the S&G world I have a few questions about getting set up to start (may not actually start till Spring 2011 but I felt getting everything ready now would be very useful and I could do things like drilling holes etc)

- is there an ideal size for a table to build a kayak on?
- would an overhang for clamping things all the way round be useful?
- should the table be the length of the kayak?
- how much wider than the beam would be useful?

I have also read a fair amount about the butt joints and I am going to experiment with some scraps by adding a 1/16" spline and probably only using glass on the inside. I would use a regular router table to cut the slots have reasonable woodworking skills. The main factor seems to be the strength of the joint. I cannot make the spline slots as long as I have seen done by Tom Jordin but most advice re. spline depth suggests I should get away with less. I will happily report my results but wondered if anyone else has tried?
