Wow, that is an amazing story! Funny thing, I was watching "shark week" two nights ago and a guy in South Africa was kayaking with great whites and saying that they were just curious and would never bite a kayak. I guess he was wrong!

By the way, funny you mentioned the bananas, my friend will not allow bananas on his boat whatsoever. He once turned away a $700 daytrip because the guy refused to get rid of his bananas before boarding. I'm sure he would blame the bananas for your incident, but I think that's a myth. I blame the seals. probably the big guy was saying "Those are my seals- stay away." The actions you describe to me are not a shark attacking a prey. I have seen many sharks attacking prey and it is a very violent attack with a back-and-forth motion of the body. What you described to me was a territorial thing.

Anyway, amazing show of the strength of your kayak. You should respond to the guy that just posted wondering how many layers of fiberglass he needs. Whatever layup you did, I say that's probably the best choice!!!
