: Hello there, could you help me please-i am about to purchase a
: granta kayel kayak/canoe. It is wooden and in excellent
: condition including paddle. Does anybody know the value only i
: can't find anything on the internet regarding the item. Any
: knowledge out there as mine is very limited!

Rush to www.google.com and put the words Granta Kayel in the search field. You should get a list of websites that have information on this boat or other similar boats produced by those companies. To get you started I've copied the top few items from the list. There are a lot more there for you to dig through.

Based on the summaries I get the impression that Kayel was the brand name of the design and that Granta was the company in Ramsey England that sold these designs in the United Kingdom and probably Europe. The designer was Ken
Littledyke, and he designed several boats in different lengths and for different purposes. The British call our kayaks 'canoes', by the way.

As for the value of the boat you are buying: I see one list of a K
Kayel design getting a bid of 12.5 pounds. That sounds like an opening bid and pretty low. I wouldn't give that much consideration. I would look at the care that went into building the boat and the current condition. Since it appears that many of these boats were built from kits you should consider that the person building the boat might have been an amateur. That gives you very little track record on the reputation and quality of the actual builder, so placing a value is a bit more difficult than with a factory-built boat where there were more produced

Good luck on your research.
