: I have an older s&g kayak that has taken a lot of abuse and in
: need of a refurb. There was some rock damage and delaminations
: so I have removed the old glass and sanded down to bare plywood
: in most places. The plywood is solid but is no longer suitable
: for a bright finish and I will paint

: I am thinking that there is no need for fill coats and I will go
: straight from glassing, to epoxy and microballoon fairing
: compound, to primer and paint.

: Does anyone see problems with this sequence?

If you have spray equipment you can save a bunch of time on the final paint by using one of the high build sealer/fillers after glass but before paint. Most automotive supply stores sell several brands of the stuff. Works well, it's fast and gives a nice sandable smooth surface for paint.
