Hello kayak builders, paddlers, lurkers, and everybody else!

The SouthEast Michigan Kayak Builders have built more than 30 kayaks !! Let’s show them off. EVERYBODY IS WELCOME!

Alan Heavner is graciously allowing us to use his place. The plan is to meet at about 3pm June 26, at Heavner’s Canoe at Proud Lake in Milford, Michigan, to show off our boats, talk about them, and maybe even paddle them around a bit. Heavner’s is on the Huron River and is suitable for paddlers of all abilities.

[b]Ideally, bring home grown boats/paddles/gear. We are not too picky. Any kayak, canoe, or other craft is welcome. The important thing is to show up, meet others, and have a good time. I’m hoping to make this a BIG event, including inviting the media-- so come out, show off your handiwork, and spread the word.[/b]

A Michigan State Park pass is needed. Day passes are available on site. ($6.00 I think?)

At 8pm, another event is happening to continue the fun. Heavner’s and SOLAR have run a “Moonlight Canoe Paddle” for several years. This popular event is great for the experienced paddler as well as the novice. We will start with pizza at about 8pm, and then paddle off into the setting sun. Then return by paddling back into the moonrise, maybe after stopping in Milford for ice cream. Remember to dress for the weather, including a headlamp or flashlight and water bottles. When we return to the canoe rental, a bonfire will be awaiting us.

What does all this cost?
Show up, talk about kayaks, paddle… Nada, nothing. (need the Michigan park pass)
Pizza and bonfire… $15/person
Bonfire only... $5/person

For the kayak builders that wish to continue the fun, Alan Heavner is allowing us to set up tents and camp on his property! There are grills, picnic tables, and outhouses available.

Camping (boat builders/family only, please) $10/tent

Of course, if you need a boat, you can rent one from Heavner’s.
Canoe or Kayak $30 per person. Includes pizza dinner, boat rental (canoe or kayak), bonfire.

If joining us for dinner/bonfire/&/or camping please preregister by calling Heavner Canoe Rental at: (248) 685-2379. Please call in your reservation AT LEAST 24 hours before the event. Dinner will not be available for those who do not preregister. If coming only to show off your craft, no need to call, just show up and have fun.
