I agree with Bill, If you are varnishing only with a brush it will be hard to maintain a wet edge all around the boat.

For the method I outlined in my previous post I use a West System roller for laying the varnish on and I just tip off along the grain with a quality brush to pop any bubbles. If done correctly you should find that your varnish brush takes on almost no varnish in the tipping off process.

This method allows one to lay on and evenly spread the varnish fairly rapidly.

When applying second and third coats in chemical bonds (ie: No sanding between coats) it becomes necessary to work in specific spacings in order to know where you have and haven't varnished. You want to avoid going over old ground, and also avoid leaving dry spots.

I find myself using the staple holes as a guide to where I am in the process.
