Thanks Bill. I love wood so much. Persian carpets (hand made ones) are all the more beautiful and intriguing for the errors in colour and pattern than if they were perfect to the last knot.

Wood does this for me. The odd knot and grain swirl that are where they shouldn't be are what make a wooden artifact unique in my eyes. After a while I find familiarity and comfort in the oddities. If something is too perfect you just know it has to come out of a machine, be that machine human or made of steel.

It is the error in an otherwise perfect universe that we are able to perceive with wonder and interest as matter and gravity and light. Somehow we know that without all this imperfection there would be no habitat for the evolution of subjective consciousness. We could never be. Being conscious of this enables me to find some comfort in a seemingly chaotic universe.

How is that for going off topic? I love talking even more than I love wood.
