Coelan is microporous, much like gore-tex. If it sits in water forever, it will not be completely waterproof. But- epoxy is not completely waterproof, either. A kayak that's taken out of the water is different than a craft that lives in the water and never comes out.

The primer is used to help the product stick to the surface better. There's a regular primer and a flex primer. The flex primer doesn't make it more flexible, it sticks better to flexible items, which helps the finish stick better... A lot of people who've reported using it on SOFs skip the primer, but if I were going to spend that much on a coating, I'd follow the manufacturer's recommendation and use the primer.

And- I asked the tech staff at UGL about using it on skin kayaks, and they said absolutely not, that they didn't even make a product that would stick to synthetic fabric.
