: And now for something really different.....

: I've just designed and built a new "Sonnet Double". It's
: technically know as
: an Inflatable / Folder / Hybrid as it combines aluminum stringers with 6
: Folbot sponsons to arrive at a hybrid of sorts. All stringers, including keel
: are free standing with no connection between stringers / stems. There are no
: cross sections, just simple aluminum cross braces tubes.

: It displaces over 500lbs in it's 15.5' X 26" configuration. Assembly
: time is
: under 15 minutes, and weight is only 37lbs. It paddles like an SOF, not an
: inflatable. It's size allows it to be easily paddled as a high volume single.

: Most of the boats I design are built as wood frame SOF's, but for me folding
: kayaks are easily the favorites, with inflatable / folders offering the
: greatest design challenge and therefore the greatest satisfaction.

: Below is a link from FoldingKayaks.org forum detailing the construction ,
: paddling, and transport of the boat. I've started the Link in mid-thread to
: show the completed kayak. Scroll down to see additional details including
: breakdown and transport. Go to the beginning of the thread for frame,
: sponson,
: and skin construction details.

: I think that all SOF's should have a folding option... :) Cheers, Tom

Hi Tom,

From the pix it looks more like a decked canoe than a double kayak, still interesting. Still at this point thinking of building a solo sonnet over the winter, we'll see.
