I have used West System epoxy that is pretty clear. (I forget which numbers, it's in the basement now) Also, I've used MAS Slow hardener, which has a definite amber color.

I've also used Dura-Tuff as a coating on my SOF. It is clear, and glossy, and has UV inhibitors. It's not "varnish" but it seems like it would be good protection on top of clear West Systems epoxy. (Note that the Dura-Tuff is a solvent based polyurethane, and should only be applied with good ventilation and good organic respirators. Did I mention it is truly noxious stuff that causes headaches?)
