Laszlo over at the CLC forum has the answer as to why it is showing up like that. Quoting Laszlo "It's just the new WaterTribeTrans-Pacific Challenge. Originally, it was supposed to start from San Francisco, but they decided that a 2,700 mile portage would add that little something that was missing from the event."

As Andy mentioned, Google is probably getting paid by WaterTribe to have it show the route that way.

Would be quite the interesting paddle though.
