I would be concerned with how well, or how poorly, this stuff could be glued. Not sure epoxy would bond very well to the plastic. That would lead to problems with glassing it, too.

If cedar or redwood are not available in your area, look for common white woods, such as spruce, pine, or fir. Construction grades are sold as 2x4s, while better grades are sold in other sizes for use as 'trim'. The most expensive tuf you'll find is clear wood which has been shaped into mouldings.

Talk to the people who run the lumber department and ask if they can special-order wood for you. You should be able to order ash, oak, maple, and poplar or aspen. Ask for 1x6s in lengths close to 8 feet.

Rockler will happily sell you a board by mail-order, or online. Check the shipping costs. This is not a cheap way to buy wood, but you don't need lot for a SOF.
