Btw, a similiar idea. Lexan is available as a film (rigid very thin sheet material) that's still clear. Also available in colors translucent as well as opaque and retains Lexan's strengths. Years ago, when I had the boatbuilding company I had samples. Always thought it would make for a fairly strong and damage resistant cover for a SOF. It's heat formable too.
