Heat will soften almost any adhesive, even epoxy. 3M makes a great product called General Purpose Adhesive Remover which works. It's safe for finishes and won't harm almost any of them, you can't say none. You can get it at painters' supply stores that carry automotive paints. They make it in a consumer version in an aerosol can called "Adhesive, Wax, and Tar remover" which is available at almost all auto parts stores.
