-- I just want to finish my boat. In both the previous thread asking for help, and this one, the common answer is that the material is cheap and easy to find. My web and brick/mortar searching (3 more stores today) show that it is not. I have learned a bit in looking. There are subtleties of the material that even some here do not appreciate. One thing CLC got right was to provide highly compressible material. The cheap and easy to find stuff is "low compression," or, as I found out with my first effort, highly water absorbent.

Flushness is the lesser issue; looking at the parts, even a caveman could see that the material is too wide. Some of the guys writing in this tread have not seen the parts. A few have gingerly agreed that the gasket material was inappropriate. Nick had the most useful comment here, suggesting a way the material could have been effectively trimmed for width.

So, wrong material provided. Specialized material required to do the job right. This is why CLC should have done the legwork to get it right in the first place.

Anyway, you'll all be glad to know that I've contacted CLC, and await their response.
