: In regard costs, there are builders who claim they can knock out a boat for
: $100. If you can scarf joint you can make your long stringers out of short
: sections of scrap lumber.

I'm about 2/3 building my first SOF now. The boat will be a nylon coated version of a Yost Seapup for my son (4'9" and 75lbs).

A summary of my expenses on this project:
- sections- splurged and bought a sheet of Okoume marine ply for $128. Used 1/3. Could have bought construction grade for $40 or so
- Stringers- 5 pieces of 1x4x8 select pine from the builder supply store- ripped and scarfed to make stringers- $25-30
- Dowels $3
- Heavy braided fishing line for sewing skin and reinforcing frame joints $20
- Seat/floor- I used leftover douglas fir. See Yostwerks for recommendations.
- Seat brackets and fasteners- maybe $30 following the Yost design.
- Skin- Nylon and coating from Skinboats.org for about $120 shipped to Michigan. Could probably have saved $30 with cheaper coating. No idea of PVC/fabric cost
- glue- already had epoxy/microfibers/wood flour from previous projects. A quart size A-pack of West is about $60 + pumps.
- oil for frame $8. Used about $1 from the can.
- Coaming- laminated left over ash. Could have used the remainder of the plywood sheet instead.
- Deck lines, bungies, etc. Haven't gotten there yet.
- Paddle - left over DF carved into a Greenland paddle.
Strongback- recycled from a previous project.

Hope to skin it tonight or tomorrow.

The traditional frames would be no ply, more lumber. Less glue, more string.
