: But how would you suggest I secure the tether to the deck plate lid? Epoxy a
: pad eye to the underside? We were looking at it at work yesterday, and
: considered drilling some small holes into the sides of the recessed parts
: (where you put your fingers in to unscrew it) and then just sealing the
: holes and cord with some sealant of choice (Lexel, Aquaseal, Epoxy)
: Leaning towards the flexible sealants in case the tether cord needs
: replacement in the future.

: Concerned that just drilling into the side of the deck plate lid, and tying a
: cord to that hole, would just bung up the threads when trying to screw the
: plate in...

: Thanks again,

I don't know about Beckson hatch lids - I've never seen one. All the screw in hatch lids I have seen in the UK though have a place in the centre designed to accept a very small screw, for just this purpose. With the hath lid upside down (ie inside the hatch facing up) it is like a small tube sticking up in the centre of the lid: maybe 10mm high, 6mm outside diameter and 2mm inside diameter. Some hatches in fact come with a plastic tether with small loops on each end designed for screwing to this point.

Don't suppose the Beckson has the same?
