I've used both waxed and unwaxed floss, and really don't like either because floss can cut your hands or the cloth when pulling on it with a lot of force. I didn't notice any adhesion issues with the waxed floss (using oil-based enamel), though I wouldn't risk it unless you just can't get anything else. Its not worth the risk when cost of the fabric and coating (not to mention the effort of sewing and coating) greatly surpasses the cost of thread.

I like nylon cord used for tufting buttons in upholstery. Its much like masons twine, but about 1/3 the diameter of the stuff at the hardware store. At 80-lb breaking strength, its really overkill in the strength dept, but I have never been able to break it like floss (which isn't very easy to break to begin with). Fly line backing would be a close second choice, maybe first choice if I didn't have a large roll of the tufting cord. The larger diameter is a good thing when pulling on deck-tightening zig-zag lacing or the deck seam itself.

: We're part way through the frame on my son's Seapup and I'm accumulating the
: materials for the later steps. From a quick search of the KBBB archives
: and some books it appears that dental floss is a good thread for sewing
: the skin.

: Any other/better thread recommendations?
: Waxed or unwaxed? Mint flavored?
: Am I likely to run into issues with "Cory's goop" bonding to waxed
: floss?

: I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death here.
