G'day Darren,

I have searched high & low for sources of ballistic nylon here in Oz, without a lot of success. I was looking for White to use on a Geenland boat I am building but, from memory, all I could find was Black.

Bradmill Outdoor manufacture a 1000 Denier Cordura nylon (www.bradmilloutdoor.com.au/cordura.htm) of 300-350gsm that might work and it's reported to be waterproof. Coating may not be required to make it waterproof, only to make it smooth.

Ricky Richards (http://www.rickyrichards.com.au/products-detail.php?cpath=1_4_16) have 1000 Denier nylon and 1000 Denier Cordura nylon also.

Nuplex 'Revathane Clear' (www.nuplexconstruction.com.au) is a single-pack polyurethane that comes recommended by SOF builders in New Zealand. It is solvent-based & rather nasty to work with apparently, so maybe Nuplex's water-based 'Aquaclear' might be an alternative.

Hope this helps !

Regards,

Phil.

: Hi,

: I'm about ready to start planning my second Yost SOF boat (should be covering
: the first, a Sea Cruiser, tomorrow). I'm using PVC for this one, but would
: like to try ballistic nylon newt time, for a more rugged boat (FYI most of
: the lakes I paddle are dammed so have submerged trees, rocks, etc). I'm
: impressed by John's Shaman Kayaks durability, using ballistic nylon and
: polyeurethane.

: Firstly, where do I get ballistic nylon? What sort of suppliers should I look
: for - out here in Oz? Same places that sell PVC or something specific? Any
: Aussies here know a good supplier?

: Secondly, the polyeurethane. Any particular type, or just 2-part (or is
: 1-part OK) from a marine chandlery?

: Thanks, I'm all new to this (but plan to be an acomplished SOF frame builder
: one day!).

: Regards,
: Darren
