It shouldn't be that difficult at all, actually. You can build toothpick bridges that hold several hundred pounds of direct load. It's a static load, but the bridges way less than a pound. I think getting the boat down to about 20-25 pounds shouldn't be difficult to do, though I suspect it's more trouble than it's worth to shave off the last couple of pounds. After my second paddle on Sunday I'm more comfortable with the weight (some more minor changes) and overall really like the boat.
