Bill,
Sorry for any confusion, but I was referring to the lip (that the skirt goes over) that goes around the vertical riser pieces. My risers came out good ... I thought I was actually on a roll! I understand that some people use rope saturated with resin for the lip, but that doesn't appeal to me. I could make a lip out of plywood (like those on my Chessies and Shearwaters) but that would look really ugly on top of my pretty cedar riser. Stejdor's blog, the only Petrel build I have found, did a composite combing but that's way past my skill level. I'm going to keep trying using the method in Nick's first book; the laminating of thin strips. It's just that my first attempts have resulted in lots of broken strips. I didn't think it would be this hard, but that's been my Petrel story right along.
