Thanks for the link. I was thinking of retractable skegs for some reason when I read your post, rather than rudders. Obviously rudder lines will be internal so my UV post was pretty irrelevant anyway.

As for the spectra, it's all the same stuff just marketed under different brand names (such as Spectra or Dyneema). The ones you link to have a braided kernmantle sheath whereas the one I linked was just the actual filament. It will be smoother but have less abrasion protection. Let us know how it works out for you though.
