Dear Rat,

I'm looking at Nick Schades book now at the material requirements for the Guillemot. If you use 3/4 cove & bead strips, you will need 1,004 feet of strips or a quantity of 53 strips @ 18' long. This figure assumes 20% waste.

If you assume your thin kerf blade is 1/8" wide and you cut your strips 3/16 thick, each strip plus kerf waste will require 5/16" of your board. Doing the math, 53 strips X 5/16" equals just under 17" of board width. Assuming you use 3/4" actual thickness boards, you will need 5ea 1x4x18. A 1x4x18 equals 6 board feet so you will need 30 board feet (5x6). You'll need to adjust for shorter lenght, different width lumber or if you choose to cut strips 1/4 thick vs 3/16.

Bob

I think my math is right.
