Hi Jeff,

It's a very strong softwood but is somewhat heavy. Luckily it's strong enough that you can reduce the size and have the same strength. Used to be that when used for aircraft construction vs. sitka spruce you could reduce the size by 1/3 and have equal strength to spruce and similiar weight. (I think that's the right conversion, been a few years since I played with aircraft)

Downside is like redwood it tends to splinter on bends, so the edges need to be softened first.
