: I tried wood finder but found there are mom and pop lumber yards spread out
: all over. They aren't the type of place you will find on the web or yeller
: pages, word of mouth.

: The inventory of green wood changes every week and should be great for ribs

I have a place on a back road nine miles from me that is unbelievable. They buy hardwoods in several states around me and cut and kiln dry them. The have clear pieces up to 6 foot long they sell for 50 cents a pound. I have a lot of this cheap wood in my kayaks. They also have lots of exotic woods from all around the world. But I have bought Cherry, Red and White oak, Yellow popular, Walnut and more for 50 cents a pound, all clear, kiln dried and milled four sides. They are cut off from boards much bigger boards. So do check around your area. I've found Menards to be a great place to get Western Red Cedar at a cheap price if you don't mind sorting through stacks of wood.
