I grew up on Lake Huron, which freezes over about as often as Lake Michigan, but I read that Lake Erie freezes over 6 out of 10 years on average. It's the shallowest of the lakes, so the temp changes pretty rapidly. Lake Ontario is the deepest- barely any ice cover there.
