Strip: Magnetic hatches and electronics - GPS etc

Hi, I'm in the process of building a strip kayak and am very interested in using rare earth magnets to secure the front and back hatches and a day hatch. From what I have read magnets properly used should provide plenty of strength for even the roughest conditions (though if folks have experience with this I'd love to hear about it!). The indication is also that compasses should be fine as long as they are about 18 inches from the magnets.

My concern at the moment is with electronics. If I have GPS, camera etc near the hatch or coming in and out of the hatch will they be affected by the magnets???

Any other thoughts or concerns about magnetic hatches would also be great. It seems like such a perfect solution ... is there something I'm overlooking???
