Have you looked into the work Harvey Golden is doing? Most people know him from his work with Greenland kayaks, but recently he has been building reproductions of Aleut and North Alaskan kayaks/baidarkas. There are some good photos on his site with construction descriptions. He's fairly accessible. If you have questions he may be able to help you, but at least looking through the site may be helpful.
