Skin-on-Frame: Stringer/Gunwale Question

I seem to be limited to Long Douglas Fir so scarfing and cedar I would have to scarf. The Fir is more dense, has a tighter grain, straight as a arrow, and perfect vertical grain.

I'm building a Yost Sea Rover for the GF
