Strip: strip deck with fiberglass hull

I have an older fiberglass kayak with a hull design that I like very much. I would like to try cutting the deck off and use it to make forms for a new strip deck. I am seeking helpful info from others who might have already done this. The only info I have found to date is some pictures of the Wooden Nickel Kits which use a shear clamp.http://www.woodennickelkayaks.com/index2.html
