Great Job! Very pretty boat.

May i ask, did you use stain on the mohagany, the color is excellent.
Also what grit did you sand the mahogany down to?

I ask about the grit because i am trying to figure out why the mahogany on my boat came out with blotches...i figure maybe i used different grit sandpaper and the epoxy was absorbed deeper in places.

: Okay, so it's not a kayak, but I just thought some of you might want to see
: another homebuilt S&G project. My son and I recently finished this 12'
: dinghy after about two years of off and on work. With the rig we cobbled
: together, the boat actually sails very well, and rows well, too. We have a
: motor, sort of. A friend gave us an old 7.5 HP Sears/Elgin, and if we can
: get it running... We found the plans on bateau.com, and it's their 'V12'
: design. The boat plans were okay, but the full-size patterns were pretty
: inaccurate, so we had to revert to the diminsions provided. This project
: was a lot more involved than the Yost Sea Pups we built a few years ago,
: but we enjoyed it. Calder is turning 16 and has just about outgrown his
: Sea Pup, so I suppose I'm gonna have to build myself a new kayak (probably
: a wood-frame Yost Sea Ranger) so he can steal my old one. He may be
: straying, though. I keep catching him looking at cars online.
: I've attached a link to our dinghy-building album; it has three pages, which
: is not immediately obvious. The rudder was one of the most fun parts to
: build, so I thought I'd show it off here.
: Cheers!
: Steve
