Hi, I live in Vancouver BC and have decided to build a strip kayak and am super excited! Now I need to figure out the best design.

About me: 5'11, 180 lbs. Been paddling for 10 years with 4 - 5 weekend trips a year and 1 or 2 two or two & a half week trips per year. Everything from protected waters to open ocean. 20 to 30 kms/day. I currently paddle a Necky Looksha IV and it has served me well. I feel like I am a very solid Intermediate (whatever these categories mean!) and would like room to improve further (no roll as yet).

What I think I want in a boat: Good storage room for up to 2 to 3 weeks. Tracks very well while having enough maneuverability to handle rough weather, tricky landings etc. Reasonable primary stability and good secondary stability.

The boats I'm considering: Orca Boats is close to me and I have already signed on with Rod to build my boat this winter. They have 2 designs that look very interesting. The Skana and the Kiska. I am also quite interested in the One Ocean Expedition.

I would love to hear peoples thoughts, if anyone has paddled any of these models or if people have suggestions about others I should look at seriously.

Thanks! Peter
